About
David is an AHPRA registered general psychologist, having completed a Master of Psychology (Counselling Psychology) and has experience with a diverse range of mental health concerns, including:

anxiety (and panic),

depression,
-
grief and loss,
-
substance use,
-
post-traumatic stress,
-
relationship issues,
-
stress management,
-
perinatal mental health
-
chronic health conditions and pain
-
family violence (has also worked for Victoria Police as a senior instructor teaching Family Violence to recruits).
David has experience in face-to-face, telephone counselling, telehealth, and extensive experience in working with a range of presentations and ages, from 7 to 99 yrs!

In addition to counselling, he has significant experience in teaching mental health

Significant experience full-time teaching at the tertiary (university) and TAFE levels developing and managing mental health units of study for undergraduate nurses at all levels.

As such, David with a wealth of knowledge of therapeutic strategies in mental health, as well as a sound understanding of psychopharmacology (medications) and other medical treatments.
Health and First Responder Sector Experience:

decades-long experience in health, from a nursing perspective, as he has been a qualified critical care nurse (emergency, intensive care and hospital management) and registered with AHPRA for many years.

years of experience working with members of VicPol. Worked as a Senior Instructor to recruits at the Victorian Police Academy, in the Centre for Family Violence.

Given this unique depth of experience, David has a strong interest in the needs of healthcare staff (nurses, doctors, paramedics, etc) as well as other frontline staff such as police, fire and defence forces.
​
As a counsellor, David has utilised psychodynamic, interpersonal, cognitive-behavioural (CBT), narrative and reminiscent approaches. He describes his core approaches as CBT and humanistic.
At the heart of change, is building a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship.
